Conservation of a Regency mahogany reading table

Fortunately, this piece was only suffering from neglect and the passage of time. The main problem was the reading slope which was badly split and the damage had telegraphed through to the surface veneers. We removed the veneers and consolidated both the splits in the substrate and the veneers. They were then reglued using traditional animal glue and a new up-stand was made. Other minor repairs were made before re-patinating the newly veneered top and wax polishing all of the show wood.
